What’s your name?

Tyler Real

I have been a farmer since:

I’ve helped on the farm since I was 12 years old and I am currently taking agribusiness in Brandon then returning back to the farm. My dad is a 3rd generation farmer of Real’s Western Farms and we had our century farm celebration 2 years ago.

I’ve been a Farm At Hand user since:

2014, it has made the organization of our farm simpler by knowing what we have and where we have it.

Where do you farm?

Fertile, SK

What do you grow?

We currently grow winter wheat, wheat, barley, canola, soybeans, lentils, peas, and flax.

How did you get into farming?

I got into farming because my mom and dad are farmers. They have given my 4 brothers and I the opportunity to be involved by working to expand our farm.

Tell us a little bit about why you become a farmer and who you farm with.

The reason that I am a farmer is because I love the work that comes along with it. You are never doing the same thing every day. The hours you work in a day are always different because you work until you get the job done. The people that I farm with are my dad, my 4 brothers and one of my dad’s friends that has been with us for 25+ years

What’s one of your favourite moments when you¹re out in the fields?

My favourite moment in the field is running the seeder. I love the smell of the dirt after a field is sowed and keeping track of the numbers on the monitors in the tractor.

What’s currently in your pockets?

My cell phone and a knife.

What’s your most important piece of equipment and why?

Our sprayer is the most important piece of equipment because we are constantly using it throughout the year. We run it almost nonstop from May to September. Since there is such short windows to spray the chemicals, our sprayer is usually always spraying.
