What’s your name? My name is Leandro Rittel

I have been a farmer since: I’ve been a farmer since I was born, but I actually learned how to drive a tractor when I was eleven. I’ve been using Farm at Hand for about three months now.

Where do you farm? I farm at Jóia city, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil.

What do you grow? I grow soybeans, wheat, barley, linseed and oats.

Tell us a little bit about why you become a farmer and who you farm with: Since I was eleven I went back and forth because of my studies, but I always helped my father. After I graduated as an Agronomist, I worked for three years only at the farm. I received a job opportunity, and by then, my brother had also graduated and gotten back to the farm. Nowadays I work at SEBRAE as a Project Manager of Agribusiness and I still do the financial and administrative work for our farm at a distance, and I go to the farm at least once a week to put the paperwork in order. That’s why I searched for an app like Farm At Hand, so my brother could feed and keep record of all the operational work, while I could also see everything that’s done to help our decision making process. And for that, the app worked very well!

What’s one of your favorite moments when you’re out in the fields? My favorite moment is when I’m on the combine harvesting. I love when you see everything going into the bin and all the work that you’ve done during the season.

Can you share with us what you think our biggest challenge in Ag right now? The biggest challenge is the decision making. The operational work as hard as it is, is already known and has a process to follow. But to make the right decision at the right time takes a lot of information that you should keep and analyse, and for that you need MANAGEMENT.

If there is one thing you want the general population to know about farming, what would that be? It would be how much information is needed, and the extensive knowledge that any farmer needs to have to be successful in this business.
