What’s your name? Carolyn Wehde.

I have been a farmer…: for the last 4 years. I grew up on a farm and fell in love with farming.

I have been a Farm At Hand user…: for about a year. My now fiance from Manitoba introduced me to Farm At Hand and I love it. It’s handy to keep track of the different varieties we have on the farm.

Where do you farm? south eastern South Dakota.

What do you grow? Mostly corn and soybeans, some oats and alfalfa for my horses.

What do you love about farming? The freedom! You’re also serving your country by providing food for other people, and bonus I get to enjoy being outside.

Tell us a little bit about who you farm with: I farm with my dad, Jim Wehde. He’s a fourth generation farmer and I’m a fifth; we do what we love.

What’s one of your favourite moments when you’re out in the fields? When you are in the combine! It’s a lot of fun – the sound, the view. It’s nice to reap the results of your hard work.

What’s your favourite equipment? Naturally, that would be the combine. 🙂

Can you share with us what are our biggest challenge in Ag now? There’s negative perception and misconception about farming, from GMO’s to other labelling.

If there’s one thing you want the general population to know about farming, what would that be? Farming is a family business. The majority of farms are not factory farms; they are owned and run by families. When you talk about farmers, you pretty much talk about your next door neighbours.
